There is legislation in progress, known as The REMOTE Act, that calls for an extension of provisions to protect veteran’s resident housing benefits through June 1, 2022. Yesterday, December 15th, this legislation successfully passed the Senate and is expected to be signed into law on or before the December 21st expiration date. As we all know, the pandemic is far from over, and the passage of this bill gives CIAT and all of you more time to prepare your future academic plans without facing financial uncertainty or risking your health to gain an education.

We are proud to announce the latest evolution of our campus plans for 2022 – our Hybrid Campus Plan.
Students who elect to participate in CIAT’s Hybrid Campus option will be required to attend one class session, their final exam, at CIAT’s National City campus. Physical attendance will be required, tracked, and reported to the Veterans Administration, Department of Education, and/or any other federal or state agencies that require residency verification.
As we plan to partially re-open our campus to limited on-ground sessions, strict COVID-19 protocols will be outlined to protect the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff members, including vaccine and masking requirements. These mandates will continue to evolve as we act based on guidance received from local, state, and federal government recommendations. CIAT is committed to helping our students that have been financially affected by COVID-19. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act is a federal law and provides funds to higher education institutions to provide emergency financial aid grants to eligible students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic.
Grants are for students who have experienced additional expenses due to COVID-19. Grant funds can help students pay for eligible expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care, or other unexpected expenses.
The federal government has established the eligibility criteria that students must meet in order to receive CARES Act Student Emergency Aid Grants. Only students who are eligible for federal aid and have a financial need can be considered.
*Students not eligible for CARES Act Student Emergency Aid Grant funding will be automatically reviewed for Student Assistance Funds, while funds remain available.
CARES Act Grant applications are currently closed. Students may monitor our CARES Application Submission page for notifications of new application dates if additional government funding becomes available.
Funds will be distributed directly to the student by the institution. Other financial aid you have received this academic year is not taken into consideration when approving the funds.
No. It will bypass any outstanding charges and be distributed directly to the student.
No, nor can it be claimed as a deduction or credit for expenses paid with the grant including the tuition and fees deduction, the American Opportunity Credit, or the Lifetime Learning Credit (section 139(h) of the Internal Revenue Code).
The amount of funds received from the U.S. Department of Education may not be sufficient to support all students, but CIAT will distribute funds available to help as many students as possible while still awarding an amount that is meaningful. Eligible students with the highest demonstrated financial need will be given priority. CIAT will divide the grant by the number of approved applications and disburse the funds equally to everyone who meets the qualification criteria by the disclosed deadlines.
